White House Visit

I've lived here on the east almost 9 years and just had my first visit to the White House, thanks to some sweet friends (who could've taken us years ago, but whatever).
Thankfully they could get us close parking and get us in on a day when they allowed us to take pictures.
The tree we are standing in front of is one that's decorated with an ornament that each state sends to the White House. It really was amazing.
This is the room where they had the dinner where the uninvited guests came. I had pictured a grand ballroom, like the one in the Sound of Music, but it was actually a lot smaller than I thought -- no room for dancing here.
Each year they make a White House out of chocolate and add a personal touch. This year you can see the White House dog laying in the front. I wonder if they end up eating this or it just goes to waste. What a shame if they don't enjoy all that chocolate.

They have all the White House Christmas cards on display. Some were a little boring. I think I'd have the fanciest cards ever if I was sending them from the White House.
Chris admiring the White House china that has been used through the years. This display was gorgeous. Some dishes too pretty to eat on.
This room was had the nativity displayed behind us.

.
The boys were ready to leave after having to pose for way too many pictures.

As we left, we stopped by the National Christmas tree which had mini trees all around the grounds that represented each state. It was fun to experience all the traditions that go on in DC that I never knew about. One of these days we'll have to let our kids experience it too, because it's moments like this that make living far from family and living where it's so cold worth it.

Looks totally cool. Somehow we missed this all together. I suppose that would be Laurels fault? Yes? :-) So glad to hear from you.

I lived in MD for a year and did NOTHING!!! I am such a nerd. But my excuse is that I was a new mom and didn't want to venture into the big city with a newborn. Lame excuse.

What a fun time to visit the White House!

I was there in 2003 and at the time they were not letting anyone in the White House. But there were other great things to do.

That would be a fun place to live.

So fun!! The "univited room" must be kept small on purpose;) haha:) Great pictures!

We missed that when we lived in Maryland, too. I guess Laurel didn't like us as much, because she never took us! Just kidding.

Well, we can't ALL see the President at the White House I guess. But it looks like you managed to have a fun time anyway.

I'm so jealous! We've always wanted to do that, since we moved here!

That looks like such a fun experience. I went inside back in the 90's when all you had to so was line up. But the Christmas decor looks fabulous. How fun!

Fun! I almost went there once, but didn't get to because my sis broke up with the SS dude who was going to take us. Fun to go at Christmas time!

How fun. I never did get the chance to go while we lived there.
:( By the way, it's not that cold there. Come visit Colorado; last week it was -3 with the wind chill when the kids left for school!

Enjoy, we miss it!
